What is the Simon Giftcard?

Simon Giftcards (issued by American Express or Visa), are prepaid payment devices that can be used to purchase merchandise and services anywhere in the United States where American Express or Visa Debit Cards are accepted. The Simon Giftcard is not a credit, charge, or debit card.

How do I use the Simon Giftcard?

The Simon Giftcard is accepted by merchants just like a credit card. The amount of every purchase you make will automatically be deducted from the value on the Giftcard. If the purchase exceeds your available funds then tell the merchant the amount to charge your Giftcard or the purchase may be declined for insufficient funds.

Select the “credit” option when making a purchase. We recommend that you write down the Giftcard number and Customer Service number from the back of the Giftcard on a separate piece of paper in case the Giftcard is lost or stolen. Simon Giftcards are not redeemable for cash, except as required by law.

What do I need to know about using the Simon Giftcard at restaurants, gas stations, or other service oriented merchants?

When using your Giftcard at a gas station, you should always pay inside - do not pay at the pump. When you pay at the pump, the available balance (or $75 on Visa and up to $100 on American Express) may be automatically made unavailable from your Giftcard, until the actual transaction posts (typically within 3-10 business days). If you have less than $75.00 on your Visa Giftcard or less than $100 on your American Express Giftcard, your transaction may be declined at the pump. After the merchant settles, the accurate funds will be refunded back to your Giftcard.

Service-oriented merchants such as restaurants and salons typically factor in an additional 20% on top on your total bill to cover any tip you may* leave on the Giftcard. If your total bill, combined with the additional 20%, exceeds the amount on the Giftcard, it may be declined. To ensure the approval of your Giftcard, there must be an available balance that is 20% greater than your total bill.

*This does not mean that you will be charged the additional 20%. Once the merchant processes the transaction for the total bill amount, only the original authorization amount will be deducted from your available balance.

What do I need to know about using the Simon Giftcard for online, mail or telephone purchases?

Simon Visa Giftcards - You may need to register your Giftcard with your name and address before using it for online, mail, or telephone purchases. Some merchants require address verification in order to approve transactions. Unless you register your Giftcard in advance, the merchant might decline your purchase even if there are sufficient funds on the Giftcard.

Simon American Express Giftcards – Your Giftcard may be used without registration at merchants that accept American Express Cards, including online, mail or telephone purchases. If you have difficulty using your Giftcard, please contact customer service for assistance at 1-800-331-5479.

How do I register my Giftcard?

Simon Visa Giftcards: Visit www.simon.com/giftcard or call 1-866-325-6238 to register your Giftcard.
Simon American Express Giftcards: Many online merchants will accept the American Express without the Giftcard being registered. If you have difficulty with an online, mail, or telephone purchase, please contact customer service for assistance at 1-800-331-5479.

My internet purchase was declined even though there was a sufficient balance - but my Giftcard was still debited. Why?

If you had sufficient funds on the Giftcard when the purchase was attempted, then the debit is a temporary hold. Your Giftcard will be reimbursed for the amount debited within approximately 9 days or less. The debit occurs because even though our Giftcard system had approved the purchase, the merchant subsequently declined to complete the transaction under its security policies. This may have occurred if you had not registered your Giftcard prior to shopping online. Please note that Simon Mall Property Group, American Express, U.S. Bank®, MetaBank, Bank of America, Visa, and their affiliates, employees, and agents have no control over merchant's security policies and cannot reverse or overrule a decline based on the merchant's policies.

Are there any restrictions on where I can use my Simon Giftcard?

The Simon Giftcard is not redeemable for cash, cannot be used at ATM’s or for gambling. The Giftcard cannot be used for recurring billing purchases (such as car loans or subscriptions), on foreign website domains, cruise lines, or for rental car reservations. How do I activate my Giftcard?

Giftcards purchased at a Simon property are already active. If the Giftcard was purchased online, there will be a sticker on the Giftcard with activation instructions - visit www.simon.com/giftcard. You will need 3 things to activate your Giftcard on-line:

For the Simon American Express Giftcard: 15-digit Giftcard Number 4-digit Security code located on the front of the Giftcard. Home telephone of the Giftcard recipient If you are having trouble activating your Giftcard online or you do not know the home telephone entered by the Giftcard purchaser, please contact Giftcard Services at 1-800-331-5479 anytime, 24 hours a day.

For the Simon Visa Giftcard: 16-digit Giftcard Number 3-digit Security code located on the back of the Giftcard. What is the difference between “activation” and “registration”?

Activation is required to use the Giftcard. If your Giftcard was purchased at a Simon property, it has already been activated and is ready to use. If your Giftcard was purchased online, follow the activation instructions found on the sticker on the front of your Giftcard. Registration may be required by some online merchant websites or for mail or telephone orders. Giftcards purchased online are automatically registered. Registration also allows the customer service centers to look up you card by your name in case the card is lost or stolen.

How can I check the balance on my giftcard?

There are three ways to check your available balance on your Simon Giftcard.

  2. Call the toll-free number printed on the back of the Giftcard anytime, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  3. Stop by Simon Guest Services at your nearest Simon property or Premium Outlets

Do fees apply after my Giftcard is purchased?

We currently offer the Simon American Express Giftcards and Visa Giftcards that have NO FEES after purchase and NO FEES to replace lost/stolen/expired Giftcards. Refer to the terms and conditions you received with your Giftcard for specific and important information about any Giftcards in your possession.

Do the funds on my Giftcard expire or does the Giftcard itself expire?

Simon American Express Giftcards – The card plastic expires on the ‘valid thru’ date printed on the front of the Giftcard, but available funds on the Giftcard do not expire. (The ‘valid thru” date is required to process transactions at merchants that request a plastic expiration date.) If funds remain on the Giftcard after the ‘valid thru’ date, call Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-331-5479 to obtain a free replacement Giftcard.

Simon Visa Giftcards – The card plastic expires on the ‘valid thru’ date printed on the front of the Giftcard. Depending on when the Giftcard was issued, you may be able to get a replacement Giftcard if there are funds available. Fees may apply. Prior to the expiration date, fees* may reduce the balance on the Giftcard.

*Please note: We currently sell Simon Visa Giftcards and American Express Giftcards that have NO FEES after purchase and NO FEES to replace lost/stolen/expired Giftcard.

What if my purchase is greater than the value available on my Giftcard?

You may need to advise the merchant how much is available on your Giftcard. Most retail or store merchants can complete a split transaction and charge the Giftcard for the available balance. The remaining amount of your purchase would require another form of payment.

If you do not tell the cashier or merchant your intentions and try to make a purchase that exceeds the amount on the Giftcard, the transaction may be declined for insufficient funds.

What do I do if my Giftcard is lost or stolen?

Call customer service right away to cancel the lost or stolen Giftcard – 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You will need to know your Giftcard number in order to report your Giftcard lost or stolen and to get a replacement, so be sure to record your full Giftcard number in a safe place. You may also be required to provide additional information for security and verification.

For Simon Visa Giftcards: Call Customer Service 24/7 to cancel your Giftcard. See below for the correct number to call based on your Giftcard number. If you do not have your Giftcard number: The Giftcard number will be on the original receipt if you have access to it. If you do not have access to the original receipt, send an email to GiftcardsCS@simon.com. We may be able to assist in recovering your Giftcard number if you can provide information about the purchase of the Giftcard (i.e. date and time of purchase, location of purchase, original Giftcard value, etc).

If you registered your Simon Visa Giftcard online, then you can find the full Giftcard number by logging into your account and selecting the Giftcard from the list of “your Giftcards”. Click "check balance." This will take you to the check balance page and will show you the full Giftcard number:

Can I use a PIN for debit transactions with my Giftcard?

Your Giftcard can always be run as a credit transaction; you do not need to run it as a debit. However, if the merchant requires a debit transaction with a PIN, then:

For Simon Visa Giftcards, the PIN number is the last 4 digits on the Giftcard. The PIN number can be changed by calling the Visa Cardholder Services line – 1-866-325-6238, which is the number on the back of the Giftcard.

If you have a Simon American Express Giftcard, there is no PIN associated. Amex Giftcards cannot be used for debit transactions.

Note, the PIN can only be used for purchases and cannot be used to obtain cash at ATMs or cash back with a purchase.

Can I add more money to the Simon Giftcard?

No, the Giftcard cannot be reloaded. When all value is used, the Giftcard can be destroyed*. Never give your Giftcard to a merchant to destroy.

*Please note, while the Giftcard is not reloadable, merchants are able to process refunds and returns back to the Giftcard when applicable. We recommend that you keep your Giftcard or record and keep the Giftcard number and the toll free number listed on the back of the Giftcard if there is a possibility that you may return an item purchased with the Giftcard. You must have your Giftcard number in order to request a replacement.

How much money can I put on a Simon Giftcard?

You can purchase Giftcards in variable denominations; Visa Simon Giftcards are available from $20 and $500; American Express Simon Giftcards are available between $20 and $225.

Do additional fees apply when purchasing a Simon Giftcard?

Yes, there is a $3.95 per Giftcard purchase fee for each Simon Visa or American Express Giftcard purchased. Discounted purchase fees may be available at your local Simon property.

Are there shipping and handling charges if I purchase giftcards online?

Yes, when purchasing Giftcards online you have several delivery method options which vary in cost.

Simon American Express Giftcards:

  • First Class Mail: $6.95* per Giftcard
  • OR Express Shipping (Federal Express): $17.95* per Giftcard

*fee includes $3.95 purchase fee per Giftcard

Simon Visa Giftcards or Retail Store Giftcards:

  • $0.49-$24.95*; choose from: USPS First Class, UPS Ground, UPS 2nd Day, and UPS Next Day

*a $3.95 purchase fee per Giftcard will also be assessed at check out

Can I get a Simon Giftcard at a Simon property?

Yes, most of the Simon Malls, Mills, and Premium Outlet locations across the United States sell the Simon Giftcard. Please visit www.simon.com for the Simon property nearest you that is selling the Simon Giftcard. Select your nearest property and use the Map to find the Giftcard selling location (either a Guest Services Booth or the Management Office). You can also call the Mall Office number for any questions about forms of payment accepted and location of Giftcard sales.

Can I cancel an order?

Once you complete your order online, you cannot cancel it or make changes. Please be certain that you've entered the correct information before submitting your order. All Giftcard sales are final.

What should I do if I am having trouble purchasing a Simon Giftcard with my credit/debit card online?

Be sure to check the following:
Card Expiration Date: Make sure the expiration date on your card matches the expiration date in your issuer's system.
Address: The address on your Credit or Debit Card statement needs to be exactly the same as the one you enter on the order as your billing address.

How long does it take to receive a Simon Giftcard?

Your order will be processed within 48 hours, Monday through Friday. Please allow an additional 7-10 business days for receipt through U. S. Postal Service, or faster when using express service (signature required).
Note: Giftcards cannot be shipped to a P.O. or APO Box.

Is the Simon Giftcard sent to the recipient or to me?

For the Simon American Express Giftcard, if the total value of an online Giftcard order (excluding shipping and handling charges) is less than $150, the Giftcard can be sent to the recipient or the purchaser. If the total value of an online Giftcard order (excluding shipping and handling charges) is $150 or more, the order is sent directly to the purchaser for security purposes.

For Simon Visa Giftcards, you can choose to send the Giftcard(s) directly to the recipient or you can have it shipped to the purchaser. During the order process you will be asked to provide both a shipping address and a billing address.

Can I send the Simon Giftcard to anyone in the United States?

The Giftcard can be delivered to anyone within the United States with the following exceptions: Simon American Express Simon Giftcards cannot be ordered from or shipped to Hawaii or Vermont. Simon Visa Giftcards cannot be ordered from or shipped to Vermont.

We cannot send Simon Giftcards to post office boxes, APO or FPO addresses, or international addresses.

What should I do if my recipient does not receive his or her Giftcard in the mail?

If the Giftcard has not arrived within 10 business days, you should call us to verify the order and confirm that the recipient address and other information that we have for your order is correct. When you call, please have your order number and the credit or debit card number that was used to order the Simon Giftcard.

What should I do with my Simon Giftcard once I have used all of the funds?

Your Giftcard can no longer be accepted as a form of payment once all of the funds are used. The Giftcard can be thrown away once you are certain you do not need to return merchandise purchased with the Giftcard.

Why do I need to keep track of my balance? Can't the store tell just like they can on retailer gift cards?

Many retailers do not have access to see the remaining balance on your Giftcard. The Simon Giftcard will not always automatically deduct all available funds on purchases that exceed the available funds on your Giftcard. The Giftcard may be declined if the funds available are less than the total purchase. Therefore, you should keep track of your available balance to avoid declines.

What happens if I need to return something I purchased with my Simon Giftcard?

You can receive returns on your Giftcard, but merchandise return and refund policies vary by merchant. If the merchant issued a credit, it can take up to seven days to be added to your Giftcard. If the merchant voided or cancelled the transaction in their register, the funds could be on hold for up to nine business days. The hold is automatically released after that time and the funds are placed back into your available balance. Check your balance regularly at www.simon.com/giftcard to determine when your Giftcard has been credited for the return.

What should I do if I don’t receive a credit I’m expecting on my Giftcard?

When expecting a return or refund to your Giftcard, be sure to wait at least 10 business days from the date the credit was issued for the credit to appear back in your Giftcard funds. If you still do not see the credit after 10 business days, reach out to the merchant first for confirmation that the credit processed. Once the merchant provides you confirmation of the credit and you still have not received the funds, you will need to file a dispute on the original charge. Call the number listed on the back of your Giftcard in order to file a dispute on any charges.

What do I do if there are charges on my Giftcard that I don’t recognize?

If you believe your Giftcard number was used fraudulently, then you will need to file a dispute on the unknown charges. Call the customer service number on the back of your Giftcard. Once you reach a representative, advise the rep that you need to file a dispute on unrecognized charges on your Giftcard. To reach a representative when calling on a Simon Visa Giftcard, select the lost/stolen option.

What do I do if I have several Simon Giftcards that I’d like to combine?

You may consolidate up to 6 Giftcards per transaction at a Simon property. There is a $3.95 fee to purchase the NEW Giftcard you receive when the Giftcards are consolidated (value of new Giftcard not to exceed $500). Please visit www.simon.com to find a location near you.

I have Simon Gift Certificates that are very old, are they still accepted at Simon properties?

There are three criteria that a Simon Gift Certificate must meet in order to exchange it for a Simon Giftcard. If your gift certificate meets all of the criteria listed below, you may take it to a Simon property near you and exchange it for a Simon Giftcard. This exchange will be done at no charge to you. For the location of Simon properties in your area please visit our website www.simon.com.

  1. Certificate must be a Simon Property Group Gift Certificate
  2. Certificate must be issued by Highland Bank (find issuing bank in the upper right hand corner of the gift certificate)
  3. Value must be $20 or more (if less than $20, you may still exchange the certificate for a Giftcard but you will need to add funds to bring the total value load on the Giftcard to $20)

If your gift certificate was issued by MidAmerica, you will need to contact the State of Colorado, Dept. of Treasury / Unclaimed Property Division to seek any refund due. As required by Colorado law, MidAmerica had to report all abandoned personal property, including gift certificates issued (regardless of where they were sold). Please contact the Colorado Treasurer's office at 1-800-825-2111 or http://www.colorado.gov/treasury/gcp/ to submit a claim for any gift certificates issued by MidAmerica.
