Our Vintage Watch of the Month: OMEGA pocket watch for the blind. In 1915 OMEGA created a special watch for people who were blind or losing their eyesight. Designed to be read completely by touch, the watch was delivered without a crystal. The white enamel dial featured raised dots to indicate the hour and minute, and the “Poire” hands were sturdy enough to allow users to determine the time with their fingers. Protecting the tactile construction as well as the gilt-colored OMEGA 19’’’ SOB caliber was a polished hunter-style case made of 0.900 silver. Nearly 90 years later, OMEGA is actively engaged in the fight against preventable and treatable blindness through its support of ORBIS International, a remarkable organization whose Flying Eye Hospital delivers high-quality eye care to some of the world's remotest regions. Part of the proceeds from the sale of every Constellation Star are donated to ORBIS. Joining OMEGA in this initiative is brand ambassador Daniel Craig. The actor visited the ORBIS team in Mongolia and a documentary of the trip, Through Their Eyes, has helped raise awareness of low vision in developing countries: http://youtu.be/6XVSvfOd-Mg.
