In 1983 an optical revolution began. Although it seems commonplace today, in 1983 there was no “one-stop shopping” for vision care and eyewear—until LensCrafters came on the scene.
A concept that revolutionary and forward thinking quite naturally took off. Its success was such that it caught the attention of Italian eyewear giant Luxottica S.p.A which acquired LensCrafters in 1995.
It was a perfect marriage. Luxottica, maker of some of the world's most stylish frames, now had a broad retail distribution network. And LensCrafters could offer a huge selection of beautiful, Italian-designed eyewear.
An indication of how well the union has worked was the creation, in 2001, of Luxottica Retail, a consortium consisting of LensCrafters, Sunglass Hut, Watch Station, Watch World and Eyemed Vision Care.
