Colors and Introductions
Posted May 3 // Damian Palmer
Welcome to my first official post as the Battlefield Mall's Simon Style Setter!
I'd like to start off with a simple segment called DP's Picks. After a trip to the mall, I'll comment on what I saw, and hopefully make an awesome outfit out of it.
Let's get started!
Trendy Top

Button-ups are awesome: Perfect for any sort of weather or occasion. Stripped and plaid is super trendy when done correctly. Don't be afraid to experiment with colors.
I got this top at American Eagle, which actually has a great selection of similar shirts at a great price.
STORE: American Eagle
PRICE: $40 Perfect Pants

Don't let the photo above fool you; these are some awesome pants. They are super comfortable and come in a great variety of colors. My personal favorites are the blue, salmon, and yellow.
You can find some of their other colors here: http://jcp.is/182q41r
STORE: JCPenney's
PRICE: ~$22 Classic Shoes
I absolutely love the traditional boat shoe look. Whether it's a casual or semi-formal setting, boat shoes are great for almost any occasion. Though colors are great to have in your wardrobe, don't go with colored or canvas boat shoes. The price is cheap, but so is the look. Definitely stick with the classic look. Sperry's are my go to choice. What they lack in affordability they make up for in longevity (My pair from 2010 still look great). I got these at Journey's, but Rack Room Shoes has a great selection, too.
STORE: Journey's
PRICE: $85 Final Result:

I hope you enjoyed my first post. Make sure to look out for my upcoming posts, as I will be taking a more indepth look at fashion trends this season...and likely grabbing my regular Orange Julius while shopping through the mall.

Boardshorts Bonanza
Posted May 21 // Damian Palmer
With Memorial Day coming up, it's a great time to get some new swimwear, if you haven't already.
It's also a great time to show off your style and how much you have been preparing for swimsuit season. (none) (Slightly relevant: The Freshman 15 is not a joke.)
There are two diffferent ways you can go when it comes to swimwear for men: Swimsuit or boardshorts. I'll be covering both in this post.
The BoardshortFor those of you who engage in watersports, boardshorts are a must. If you only like to get wet and swim, skip to the next section.
Some really key things you need to look for when you are buying boardshorts are stretch, material, and design.
Some of my favorites:
The Phantom
There is a reason why Phantoms have won the SIMA Boardshort of the Year an incredible 5 times in a row. Phantoms are great, just ask my friend who still competes in the ones I bought 3+ years ago.
PRICE: ~$60
LOCATION: Pac Sun
O'Neill
Right behind the Phantom is O'Neill's line of stretchy boardshorts. Right here are the superfreaks. Trust me, you'll love yours.
PRICE: ~$60
LOCATION: Pac Sun
The Swimtrunk
Your suit hits right when it hits no lower than mid thigh. Keep at least 2 inches from the bottom of the shorts to the top of your knee cap.
Designs and paterns should be kept to a minimum.
Some of my favorites:
Polo

As you can see, they come in a variety of colors. They also are spot on when it comes to length.
PRICE: ~ $55
LOCATION: Dillards
Polo floral

These are great if you really like the floral trend or don't really care about playing it safe. It probably isn't for everyone, though.
PRICE: $80
LOCATION: Dillards
Hopefully you all have a great Memorial Day. If you want to see me in one of my natural habitats, come to the RAC.

Playoff Style - Sports fashion
Posted May 21 // Damian Palmer
Sorry Jim Mora, we are talking about playoffs today.. or just sports fashion in general.
Considering the NBA playoffs, NHL playoffs, and baseball are in full swing, I think now is the perfect time to address your jersey wearing habits.
Here are a few sports fashion tips:
DOAs my highschool science teacher used to say, KSS. Which means, Keep it Simple Stupid. The concept is the same with sports apparel, minus the stupid part.
Here is a great example:

The shirt is nice and simple. Great for gameday and everyday.

Shoot-arounds and warm-ups are terrific. Great for the gym or the game.
Here is a not so great example:

All of the info is just... distracting. Every fan knows the Cards play in Busch Stadium, you don't need a shirt to remind you, unless the stadium is the focal point of the shirt.
Overall:
Quotes are great, just not super fashionable. If you are going to wear sports' apparel, keep it simple with the team name and logo.
DON'TUnless you work for the organization you are rooting for, and even that is questionable, stay away from team branded polos!

There is a reason this is on sale. If you want to incorporate a certain level of class or status into your outfit, wear something classy that has your team's colors.
Other Notes:- Be careful with wearing jerseys. Players switch teams all of the time, and you don't want to be that person who still wears their jersey
- Sports quotes/sayings are fun, but sometimes can be unfasionable. Also, you might end up offending someone important, like your high school geometry teacher. (Thanks for not failing me!)
- Retro shirts are either awesome or awful. Consult a friend before going out with one on.
It's important to have [insert favorite team's name here] pride, but just make sure you do it right.

Minty Fresh Mint - Spring/Summer Color Trend
Posted May 21 // Damian Palmer
I hope you all are having a fabulous start to summer.
One of the best trends that started in spring that I expect to carry over into summer is the color mint!
Do you already have a lot of mint colored stuff in your wardrobe? Great, I'll show you how to adjust your outfits to keep you cool this summer?
You don't? Still great. I'll show you how to get some at a great price!
Great Examples: Mint sleeveless top

This top is a great way to stay fashionable and cool this summer. The back of the piece is the cherry on the top. This would go great with some white pants or shorts.
WHERE TO GET IT: Wet Seal
PRICE: < $20
The dress

Some say simplicity is beauty, I think it's the case with this piece. This dress is more of a canvas, with your accessories acting as the paint. A belt would do wonders giving it more shape.
WHERE TO GET IT: Express
PRICE < $40
Of course, there are plenty of other great minty pieces, you just have to go to the mall to see for yourself.
Mint Flavored Accessories:One of the great places to get some mint colored accessories is Charming Charlie! Seriously, almost everything in their store is great and inexpensive. It's next to Ruby Tuesday.
Here is just a sample of their mint accessories:

Well that does it for this post. Look for next week's post where I'll cover the other color to look out for this season, Salmon.
