Cartier d'Art, 2013 Collection Rotonde de Cartier watch, 42mm, Panther motif, granulation Cascade of gold with granulation Cartier’s fascination with the world and its wonders has led to exploring an ancient goldsmith’s technique: granulation. Like sowing gold grains, it creates spheres from gold wire, which is cut and then heated in a flame. The grains are then assembled one by one and fused with the gold plate to create the relief of the motif. Approximately 360 hours of work are needed to create this dial. Fabien Sarazin © Cartier 2012

Cartier d'Art, 2013 Collection Rotonde de Cartier watch, Lion motif, straw marquetry Brillant shades with straw marquetry. A technique for restoring graduated colors by creating warm, silky shades. The straw is first split and flatened, then cut with a marquetry saw and assembled piece by piece. From fair to reddish brown, the natural straw colors and shades add light to the drawing. Approximately 45 hours of work are required to complete this dial.
