Chelsea Property Group, previously a New York Stock Exchange-listed company, was acquired by Simon Property Group in October 2004, and continues to operate from its headquarters in Roseland, New Jersey as a division of Simon.
Chelsea is the world's largest owner, developer and operator of upscale outlet centers. Its portfolio includes 51 Premium Outlet Centers® including 41 in the United States, eight in Japan, one in Korea and one in Mexico. Chelsea Premium Outlet Centers® in the United States are located primarily in or near major metropolitan markets such as New York, Los Angeles, Boston and Chicago and visitor markets such as Orlando, Las Vegas and Palm Springs. In 2008, domestic Premium Outlet Centers® were 99% leased at year-end and generated same space sales of $513 per square foot. Cincinnati Premium Outlets opened on August 6, 2009. Chelsea Japan
Chelsea Japan Co., Ltd. owns and operates eight of Japan's largest and most successful outlet centers – Gotemba Premium Outlets, Sano Premium Outlets and Ami Premium Outlets in the Tokyo area; Rinku Premium Outlets, south of Osaka; Tosu Premium Outlets, Fukuoka; Toki Premium Outlets, Northeast of Nagoya; Kobe–Sanda Premium Outlets and Sendai–Izumi Premium Outlets. Chelsea Japan is a joint venture of Simon/Chelsea (40%) and Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd. (60%).
Shinsegae Chelsea
Shinsegae Chelsea Co., Ltd., has adapted the Chelsea Premium Outlets concept to develop upscale, fashion-oriented outlet centers in Korea. Based in Seoul, Simon/Chelsea and Shinsegae (Shinsegae Co., Ltd. and Shinsegae International Co., Ltd. together, "Shinsegae") each have a 50% interest in the venture. The joint venture's first project, Yeoju Premium Outlets, opened June 1, 2007. The center is located southeast of Seoul and serves the greater Seoul market.
Premium Outlets de Mexico
Premium Outlets de Mexico is a joint venture between Simon/Chelsea and Mexico City-based Sordo Madaleno y Asociados. In December 2004 the partnership opened Mexico's first Premium Outlet Center, Premium Outlets Punta Norte, located on the Periferico, a major north-south artery in Mexico City.
